Based in Portland, Ore., First Growth Children and Family Charities, Inc. (doing business as the Classic Wines Auction) is a non profit organization dedicated to producing the Classic Wines Auction and related food and wine events to raise funds for local charities benefiting children and families. Consistently recognized as one of the top ten charity wine auctions in the country by Wine Spectator Magazine since 2001, the Classic Wines Auction has raised over $35 million for Portland area charities since its inception in 1982. Attended by an affluent guest list of more than 850 wine and food enthusiasts from around the country, the gala auction includes a pre-dinner wine tasting, a five-course culinary feast prepared by top guest chefs, selected wines from both national and international wine ambassadors, and a silent and live auction.
The Classic Wines Auction

At the exclusive Ambassadors Dinner before the auction, up to 200 special guests join wine ambassadors to dine on an elegant meal prepared by guest chefs. The two weeks leading up to the auction includes intimate Winemaker Dinners pairing Portland’s finest chefs along with top domestic and international winemakers, as well as the popular Walla Walla Wine @Pure Space event. The newest Classic Wines Auction event, Corks and Forks, is a young professionals wine tasting event featuring local restaurants and wineries in an urban setting.
Where does the money go?
Funds from the Classic Wines Auction and related events is distributed to six benefiting charity partners at the end of each year. By working with multiple charities, we maximize the impact on the community and raise funds to benefit more than 82,000 children and families in need annually. Our partner charities include Metropolitan Family Service (MFS), New Avenues for Youth, Friends of the Children, YWCA Clark County, Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel and Special Olympics Oregon.
