Classic Wines Auction Announces New 2016 Board Members
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Classic Wines Auction (CWA) announced its five new board members for 2015/2016 this week. Joining CWA’s Board of Directors are Laura Black, Managing Director, Needham & Company; Starla Goff, Senior Vice President, Paulson Investment Company; Ian Lombard, Managing Partner, BroadPeak Capital; Wake Mack, Wealth Management Team, Becker Capital Management; and Dan Yates, Senior Vice President, First Pacific Advisors (FPA).
CWA’s work supports charities in Oregon and Southwest Washington dedicated to helping thousands of children and families in the community who are in need. CWA has raised more than $36 million for Portland-area charities since its inception in 1982.

Laura has more than 25 years of experience in high technology, business strategy and finance. Since joining Needham & Company in 1999, Laura has served as a senior banker on more than $20 billion of public financings and M&A advisories, including several transactions in the IT infrastructure and software markets. Laura earned a Master of Science degree in management from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. She also holds an MSEE from Santa Clara University and a BSEE from the University of California at Davis.
Starla and her partners recently acquired Paulson Investment Company, LLC, a leading national boutique investment bank focused on the small to mid-cap markets. As part of the acquisition, Starla and her partners expanded operations to New York, San Francisco and Chicago. Prior to Paulson, Starla was a shareholder at the Portland firm of Smith Freed and Eberhard, PC, where she co-chaired the Employment and Business Litigation Practice Group in Portland and Seattle. Starla received her undergraduate degree from George Fox University and her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Willamette College of Law.
Ian has led consumer and technology businesses through explosive increases in scope and scale – giving him extensive experience in creating the right strategy and vision as well as a strong history of building powerful, execution-focused teams. Prior to BroadPeak Capital, Ian served as the COO at Tora where he was responsible for day-to-day company operations and business development. Before joining Tora, Ian was the head of the Technology Consumer Business at Kensington, a Fortune Brands company. Ian received a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University in molecular biology. He received his M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Wake joined Becker Capital Management in 2013. He brings more than 20 years of wealth management sales and marketing experience to the Becker team. Wake has a Bachelor of Arts from Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from Willamette College of Law. Wake served as a Captain in the Marine Corps JAG Department. He is a member of both the Oregon and California Bars.
Dan joined FPA in 2014. Dan is Head of Consultant Relations. Prior to joining FPA, Dan was a Partner and investment team member at a large, long-standing hedge fund of funds group where he was primarily responsible for growing and managing client relationships. Dan’s previous roles include Vice President and Head of Actuarial at a non-qualified retirement plan consulting company and Senior Consulting Actuary for Mercer Human Resources Consulting. Dan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and physics from Willamette University and an M.B.A from Portland State University.
