Classic Wines Auction Welcomes New Benefiting Charity,
Special Olympics Oregon, Expanding Charitable Reach Statewide
PORTLAND, Ore. – Special Olympics Oregon (SOOR) is the newest benefiting charity for the Classic Wines Auction (CWA). Oregon’s largest charity auction announced today that it has added SOOR as a sixth benefiting charity for its 2015-2016 fundraising events. Through the celebration of food and wine, CWA raises millions of dollars each year to support thousands of youth and families in need in the state of Oregon and in Southwest Washington. CWA has raised more than $36 million for youth and families since 1982.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Special Olympics Oregon as our new partner charity and expand our organization’s reach to children and families in need across the entire state,” says CWA Executive Director Heather Martin. “Thanks to continued support from our generous donors and sponsors, and the hard work from our volunteers and partner organizations, the Classic Wines Auction continues to thrive, providing us with a solid foundation to add a sixth benefiting charity this year.”
Special Olympics Oregon provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for more than 12,000 participants living with intellectual disabilities – the largest disability population in the state. SOOR’s statewide programs provide children, youth and adults with continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, receive regular health education and screenings, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and gain respect and acceptance. SOOR serves thousands of individuals with intellectual disabilities across the state with the help of more than 8,000 dedicated volunteers.
“Special Olympics Oregon looks forward to this partnership with Classic Wines Auction and joining with other important organizations that are serving kids, youth and families throughout Oregon,” said Margie Hunt, CEO for Special Olympics Oregon. “We think this is going to be a gold medal year!”
SOOR joins five other 2016 benefiting charities: Metropolitan Family Service (MFS), New Avenues for Youth, Friends of the Children-Portland, YWCA Clark County and Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.
The 2016 Classic Wines Auction is set for March 5 at the Oregon Convention Center.
